Sometimes a Mom Is Just Trying to Help

In kindergarten, I learned that my son was color deficient. Learning that was heartbreaking for me as his mom, and I wanted to help him learn without making him feel like there was something wrong with the way he saw the world.

I taught him to read the names printed on his crayons so he could learn what colors were called, even when he was seeing them differently. I also taught him shapes, and creating something purposeful gave me a positive place to put all those feelings.

That experience became A Rainbow of Shapes in 2008—and years later, it became part of the story behind KidsWonderArt.

And This Is Only One Story

Motherhood doesn’t come with a script. With two sons, there have been plenty of funny moments, hard moments, surprises, lessons, and stories I never expected to tell.

That’s what Mom Life, As It Happens is about: the real stories, the unexpected turns, the things motherhood teaches us, and the creative ideas that grow out of everyday life.
